Why plan ahead when traveling by ferry?

When you plan your ferry travels in advance, you can secure a space for your vehicle aboard your preferred schedule, avoid long wait times at the terminal, and make the most of your travel time. The 65-minute sail from Anacortes to Orcas Island offers breathtaking scenery and the opportunity to experience the San Juan Islands from a unique viewpoint. Enjoy the scenic ferry ride and start your island getaway stress-free so that you arrive relaxed and ready to explore.

How can I make my vehicle reservation?

Use the WSF Save A Spot reservation system to secure a space for your vehicle. Simply click the green button that says “Make Reservation” and enter the appropriate arrival and departure terminals, date of sail, and vehicle information to reserve your spot. There is no charge to make a reservation, however a credit card is required at the time of booking.

What can I do to guarantee a smooth sail?

Washington State Ferries offers vehicle reservations for the westbound and eastbound route between the Anacortes and Orcas Island. If you are traveling by vehicle rather than walking on the ferry, vehicle reservations are highly recommended.

When planning for your visit, please keep in mind that Washington State Ferries will release a select quantity of reservation spaces across the following timeframes:

  • 25% of spaces are released 2 months before the next sailing season begins

  • 25% of spaces are released 2 weeks before the date of sailing

  • 25% of spaces are released 2 days before the date of sailing 

  • 25% of spaces are reserved for standby/walk-on passengers

Please note that vehicle reservations are not available for interisland travel.
